Do you remember when I posted about the neighbor with the open trunk? Well, late yesterday I was in my kitchen, which, when the blinds are open, you can see into the driveway where the car with the open trunk is. Her grandchildren were visiting and I not only had the blinds open (sliding glass door), but had the glass door open so Maxi could sit there and look out...
All of a sudden I heard this dreadful screaming.. Good God it was loud and shrill.....I looked up, and the poor little granddaughter was standing at the back of Granny's car, and the trunk lid was down...yep, down.....and she was screaming. It took a minute for it to register with me and then all of a sudden it did..(so I'm slow)...thank god her life wasn't in danger....So here I go running out the door heading over there, trying to figure out how the heck I'm going to get her out of there...
Just about the time I got there out came Granny screaming "what did you do?" ...well, I wanted to say "she deliberately slammed her fingers in the trunk what the hell do you think she did.?"...God that child could scream...Anyhow, as Granny was going in the house again, I don't know why, it dawned on her she could flip the trunk lid from the inside of the car, so she did and little girl is free!!!!
While I was outside grilling last night Granny came over, dragging little girl who just didn't want to be there and thanked me. She said the girl wouldn't tell her what happened and then explained the mechanics of a trunk lid (thank you so much granny).
Here's my thought, which I didn't blurt out, but what if the kid had climbed into the truck and the wind blew it closed? (That's what granny thinks happened)...I wouldn't have heard that screaming and god knows how long it would have been before granny missed her. Granny doesn't keep the doors and windows open like I do...That is scary....Maybe she should keep it closed when kids are around, don't ya think?
Just a thought...
Wow that is the second story that has TOTALLY FREAKED ME OUT this week. A school pal who works at search and rescue told me a horror one about a two year old whose father locked him in thecar while he went hunting..Uh yeah, it doesn't end well, so stop reading now if you want.
He came back twenty minutes later and his little one was gone. They found the baby two days later, footies of his jammies completely worn off dead from exposure.
the footies thing totally gets me. Even worse the dad committed suicide two weeks later on the spot where the baby was found.
Yeah horrble, I was sick to my stomach..WHY ARE PEOPLE SO DUMB?

Open car trunks are deadly. Sheesh that Granny really lost all her marbles!

Good Lord but that is scary. The majority of the time kids get hurt or worse due to stupidity. I wonder what she would have told you if you asked her out of innocent curiosity....why she kept the trunk open all the time?
