Empty Nest

New family member

Maxi and I went to the shelter today.  They had a 2 yr old Dachsund who had been either abandoned or mistreated.   Did we fall in love with him?  Well yes, of course .  Now his name was Darwin in the shelter.  I'm not terribly fond of that. So for now he's Darwin but it may be Andy..  I'll leave off the "z".  He's slowly winding down and adjusting.  I think Maxi liked him better when he was scared.  HEHEHE.  He's sitting on the couch next to me but if Maxi wants up here Andy gets down.  Here's a picture of him.  Its not so good.  I do believe that Maxi has already told him about the camera

Vacation

So...its cloudy and rainy today.  Its done that on and off all week.  So..I've been shopping.  Not so smart, but fun. It does look like its going to be this way all day today. 
I watched that new Fox show "Mental" last night.  It's looking pretty good .  Its not like Mentalist or Lie to me.  Its set in a psychiatric hospital.  The lead is the head of the psychiatric department.  He's also unconventional and quite entertaining.  Give it a try if you get a chance.  I'm not sure when its on since I watched it on DVR, but it is on FOX. 
Maxi and I slept until 10 am.  He didn't try to wake me up and needless to say..I didn't either.  I was dreaming that he (Maxi) and I were on an airplane together.  Go figure.  We were flying home and I was sneaking him on the airplane.  /????
I guess I'll clean some things, do laundry and maybe.....just maybe clean out the closet or drawers.  MAYBE

My boy...Four legged one

Well, I don't know if Maxi is getting worse or I know he will so I'm suspecting everything.  He's having trouble with his bathroom duties.  He's getting outside but it seems he's in a frenzy and then has trouble. He sleeps all the time.  He has about 5 new toys...doesn't play with them much and doesn't seem to like his usual treats as much either.  He hates his pain pills but at times I can tell he needs them. 
I'm hoping he'll last a while longer but the way things are going I'm seriously doubting the 6 months thing.  The tumor is grown quite a bit in a week. 
I've taken many pictures of him...Taken a nap with him with both of us on the floor. 
I don't know what to do.  This is so very difficult...

This morning...

Happy Holiday

I haven't posted much this week.  I guess you know that.  I've been so caught up in Maxi and what's going on there.  I don't know if he's getting worse rapidly or do I think he's worse because I know he should be.  He's done with all of his meds from the surgery.  We'll see what not taking prednoson (sp?) will do to him. 
I'm spoiling him something awful.  He's actually getting picky about his "treats".  Goof. 
Today is the Indy 500, which I don't really care much about, but the Coca Cola 600 is tonight and that is my favorite.  Also, even though I don't like basketball I'm determined to watch LeBron play tonight.  I forgot about Friday night so I'm watching it tonight.  Lets face it folks, the Cubbies are pretty awful right now so I might as well watch LeBron.
Its kind of soggy here today.  Humid cloudy and sprinkly.  Maxi and I are going to relax, watch something and have ribs for dinner.

Have a safe holiday weekend everyone.  I, you see, am on vacation all of this coming week.  Oh yeah...........

My Maxi..My doggie.   My best friend.  He's been with me every day since July 1999.  Since right after my room mate died and I moved into my apartment.  We learned how to live with each other.
He watches football with me.
Brings me toys to throw but only makes me do it 2 times at a time.  He takes a break and then brings it back.
He sleeps with me every night.  In the bed next to me.
He's the first thing I see in the morning,
and the last sight at night.
In bed sleeping on his side.
When I bought the house, I made sure it had a fenced in back yard for him to be outside as long as he wanted to and not be tied up
I also made sure it had no steps.  So his arthritis wouldn't bother him. (Ok, so I wouldn't have to walk up and down the steps too)
He went everywhere with me or.....I didn't go.
He's as lazy as I am...
He lets me cry as much as I want to when I want to.
He lets me drink when I want to
Used to let me smoke and loved it when I quit.
Waited for me to get well from the aneurysm and came home with me after.
I promised him I wouldn't leave him again and I haven't
He's now going to leave me.  He has cancer and may only live about 6 months.  I'm so damn sad..  I don't know how to do this.  I can't stop crying and he thinks I'm nuts so I'm trying to not cry around him.  I don't want him to think something is terribly wrong...which it is.
So..I'm trying to spoil him.  Fancy canned food to put his meds in.  Hug him.  Love him.  Let him sleep on the couch like he always has and watch tv.  Rub his head. And try not to cry. 
I'll probably take 6 million pictures of him (as if I don't already have that many) and try to make what time he as left as comfortable and fun as it can be. 
I love my baby boy.  So very much.  This hurts more than I ever imagined.  Say a prayer for him ok?  me too.

GAR Finale.........I know I don't want the bro' and sister to win, nor do I want the cheerleaders to win.......mmmmm.  Can Luke's Mom win by herself.?  Lots of TV shows end this week.  What the heck are we TV addicts supposed to do after that?  I'm open to ideas please.

I've been here...really

Why haven't I posted for the last week?  Because it has done nothing but friggin' rain for the past week.  Rain I say...Muddy, murky nasty mud prevails in my back yard.  The dog doesn't even want to go out when its not raining.....all because if the mud that used to be my grass.  The sun shined a bit Tuesday, and during that time I mowed the grass, just in case some neighborhood dogs or kids were lost in it.  Yep..that's the fun this week..mowing the grass.
Today, I ate French fries for the first time in over a month.  Guess what?  I can't eat fried food ever again.  My stomach is about to explode right now.  Grrrrr
But.  The doctor that I see for my asthma put me on new medicine.  Its a miracle I tell you. The godawful cough that I've had for months, as in about 6 months has almost completely gone away.  Vanished.  I sleep through the night and feel better the next morning.  (Unless I eat french fries).  I seriously feel like I've been cured and I love it.  so does Maxi. 
Speaking of Maxi...Most of you know that the past 2 months have been rather difficult for me and my family..So, Maxi didn't get much attention.  We were all glad that he liked AndyZ and actually liked having a house full of people.  I took him last week to get groomed, I had let his hair grow very long, for him.  Well, there was a big lump on his butt.  Right next to his little tiny tail. So.  I took him to the Vet and he had a rather unpleasant examination.  They even muzzled him.  I felt so terrible for my boy.  Anyway, he has an abscessed anal sack. Its about the size of a plum.  Nice huh?  So he's on steroids and anti biotics.  He goes back Monday (he may speak to me by then, but I'm not sure) to be check and if they need to sedate him to drain it they will then.  Lets just root for his meds ok?  He really is mad at me for that little trip.
So there you go.  Not much happening .  The sun is shining now, but more rain tonight just in case ....
